Explore the Ohio Statehouse and Washington D.C. with your cooperative
Lorain-Medina Rural Electric will be taking students to the Ohio Statehouse on March 31, 2020, for the co-op’s second Ohio Youth Day, an event that gives high school sophomores and juniors the opportunity to speak with
legislators and see the government in action. Students also learn about how the decisions legislators make impact the rural communities where they live.
Ohio Youth Day is step one in the cooperative’s new, more comprehensive youth program, aimed at engaging more youth in the cooperative business model. Those who attend Youth Day will have the opportunity to express interest in applying for the Cooperative Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. Cooperative staff will interview students throughout the Youth Day trip, and two students will be selected as representatives to travel to D.C.
Those selected to attend Youth Tour will then have the opportunity to interview for a paid summer internship at LMRE. It’s all part of the cooperative’s desire to encourage young people to learn about what makes their rural communities so valuable.
Students may apply for all steps of the program through
one application, due at the LMRE office by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7, 2020.
